Magnetic Effect of current ( Electromagnetism ) :
The magnetic effect of current was First discovered by Oersted in 1820 . Oersted found that a wire carrying a current was able to deflect a compass needle and concluded that a current flowing in a wire always gives rise to a magnetic field around it.
Experiment to Demonstrate the magnetic effect of current:
When the Key is pressed and current is allowed to pass in the wire from A to B ( i.e from South to North then the North pole (N) of the needles is deflect towards the west. This shows that the current ( or the moving charge ) produces a magnetic field.
When the direction of the current in the wire is reversed by reversing the terminal of the battery , the North pole of the compass needle is deflected towards the East.
