Frame of Reference :
Frame of References is defined as a fixed point or place with respect to which the position of a body in motion is measured.
The quantities which determine the position of a body with respect to the frame of reference are called coordinates.
The frame of reference with respect to which the position of the body is located and its motion is described as Cartesian coordinate system.
Cartesian coordinate System :
Draw three mutually perpendicular straight lines OX , OY and OZ from a common point O.
The point O where three straight lines intersect or meet each other is called the origin O . The lines OX , OY and OZ are called positive x-axis , y-axis and z- axis respectively .
If lines OX , OY and OZ are produced backward , then OX' , OY' and OZ' are called negative x-axis , y - axis and z-axis respectively.
The planes containing axes of X and Y , Y and Z , Z and X are called XY-Plane , YZ-Plane and XZ-Plane respectively. These three planes taken together are called the Cartesian Coordinate System.
